Quick answer

A good business finance hotline gives you one conversation with someone who understands lending and your situation. On a single call you can usually settle which types of finance are realistic, roughly how much, what security is involved, what documents come next and the likely total cost range in dollars. Loan Hotline works as a call-back: you request it, pick a time, and a specialist rings you.

Key points

  • One phone conversation can rule options in or out and set a clear next step.
  • Approval, final pricing and valuations need documents — they can't be settled on the phone.
  • Business funding advice by phone works best when you know your purpose, amount and date.
  • Loan Hotline rings you; there's no inbound queue and no credit check to ask.

A hotline should do one thing well: put you in a real conversation with someone who can help, without the runaround. For business finance, that means someone who understands how lenders think, listens to what’s actually going on in your business, and tells you straight what’s realistic.

Loan Hotline does that as a call-back. Here’s what one phone conversation can sort out, what it can’t, and how to make it count.

What should a business finance hotline actually do?

Three things, in this order:

  1. Understand the situation. What’s the money for, how much, by when, and how does the business trade?
  2. Narrow the field. There are many kinds of business finance — business.gov.au lists lines of credit, overdrafts, invoice finance and trade credit alongside term loans, grants and equity. A hotline worth using rules the wrong ones out quickly.
  3. Set a clear next step. Either “here’s what we’d need to firm this up” or “this doesn’t look like a borrowing problem, and here’s why”.

What it shouldn’t do is sell you the first product on the shelf, quote a figure before understanding your situation, or pass your details to a queue of other lenders.

What can one phone call settle?

With accurate information, a single conversation can usually answer:

QuestionUsually settled on the call?
Is this realistically fundable?Yes, in most cases
Secured or unsecured?Yes
Roughly how much?Usually, subject to documents
What security or guarantees are involved?Yes, in outline
What documents come next?Yes
What the total cost is likely to look like in dollarsOften a range, subject to assessment
Formal approvalNo — needs documents and checks
Final pricingNo — depends on assessment
Property valueNo — may need a valuation

That’s a lot of clarity from twenty minutes, especially compared with filling in long applications to find out the same thing. Before your call, the Call-Ready Check shows how much of this you’ll be able to settle in one go.

Why a call-back instead of a phone line?

Because the useful part of a phone line is the second half — after you’ve waited, explained and been transferred. A call-back starts at the useful part. You spend about a minute telling us what’s happening. A specialist reads it, then rings you in the window you chose, in your own time zone. More on that in how a call-back works.

It also keeps things personal. Your request goes to one team, not a marketplace, so you won’t spend the next week fielding calls from lenders you’ve never heard of.

If that sounds like the right way to start, request a call-back and choose your time.

When is phone advice most useful?

Business funding advice by phone works particularly well when:

  • You’re not sure which type of finance fits. Equipment finance, a line of credit, a property-secured loan or an unsecured facility can all look similar on a website. A conversation sorts them quickly.
  • Something awkward is involved. ATO debt, a past default, a newer business, property in a trust. These are easier to explain out loud and are considered case by case.
  • Time matters. A call can establish in minutes whether a deadline is realistic and which option fits it.
  • You’re planning ahead. The best time to understand your options is before you need them. An early call often surfaces something worth fixing first, such as an unlodged BAS.

It’s less useful when you haven’t yet worked out what the money is for. If that’s you, spend five minutes with the call-prep tool or read the call prep by situation pages first.

What does the lending landscape look like right now?

Business owners have more choice than they did a few years ago. The Reserve Bank’s October 2025 Bulletin noted that the non-bank share of small business lending has increased strongly since the start of 2022, particularly for smaller loans, while property security still backs a large share of small business borrowing.

In plain terms: there are more doors to knock on, but property still opens many of them. A specialist can tell you which doors suit your situation — and which ones aren’t worth your time.

What we can help with

Loan Hotline is for business purposes only. The kinds of situations owners call about include:

  • tax and ATO balances, including payment plans that have become hard to keep
  • equipment, vehicles and machinery
  • stock, seasonal buying and supplier deposits
  • wages, PAYG and super during a slow patch
  • fit-outs, renovations and moving premises
  • buying a business
  • refinancing expensive or awkward debt
  • short-term property-secured loans for a deadline

Property-secured business loans range from $20,000 to $5,000,000, and unsecured or cash-flow options for trading businesses typically run from $5,000 to $500,000.

How is a call-back different from an online application?

An online application asks you to fit your situation into boxes. A call-back lets you explain it. For simple needs, an application can work fine. For anything with a wrinkle — ATO debt, property in a trust, a deadline, a mix of debts — a conversation tends to get further because the specialist can ask the follow-up question that a form can’t.

It also avoids a common frustration: completing a long application only to find out that the product was never a fit. A short call first tells you which option is worth applying for, and what that application will need.

Ready for one useful conversation?

That’s the whole idea behind Loan Hotline: one proper conversation, with someone who’s read your situation, at a time that suits you. Asking involves no credit check, and your details aren’t sprayed out to a crowd of lenders.

Please answer the request carefully — amount, state, purpose and any property you own — because accuracy is how we match you properly first time. Pick your window and we’ll ring you.

Frequently asked questions

Is Loan Hotline a government hotline?

No. Loan Hotline is a business finance service. For free government help with debt, business.gov.au lists the Small Business Debt Helpline, and the ATO has its own lines for tax payment difficulties.

Can I get business funding advice by phone without applying?

Yes. A call-back is a conversation about your options, not an application. Nothing is lodged and there's no credit check unless you decide to go ahead.

What can't be settled on a phone call?

Formal approval, final pricing and property valuations all depend on documents and checks. The call tells you whether it's worth taking those steps and what they involve.

Do you help with personal loans or home loans?

No. Loan Hotline is for business purposes only. The security can be a home, but the money must be for the business.

What if I just want to understand my options for later?

That's a good reason to call. Choose 'just planning ahead' in the call-prep tool. Early conversations often reveal what to tidy up before you need the money.

Pick a time. We'll do the ringing.
