Why prepare for a business loan call at all?
Most first calls about business finance go one of two ways. In the first, the owner has a few numbers within reach, the specialist asks sensible questions, and twenty minutes later both sides know what's realistic. In the second, half the call is spent on "I'll have to check that", and the real conversation gets pushed to another day. The difference is rarely the business. It's whether the right details were on the table.
That's what this tool is for. You pick the situation that sounds like yours, and it gives you the short list that matters for that situation, not a generic document dump. Someone clearing an ATO debt needs their tax account balance and lodgement status. Someone buying a used excavator needs the seller's details and the price. Someone borrowing against a home needs the address, a sensible value and what's owed on it. Different calls, different lists.
How the call window works across time zones
Australia has three standard time zones: eastern, central and western. Daylight saving then shifts some of them for half the year. For 2026–27 it runs from 2am on Sunday 4 October 2026 until 3am (daylight time) on Sunday 4 April 2027. New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT move their clocks; Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory don't. That's why a Perth café owner and a Hobart builder can both ask for "10am" and mean moments three hours apart.
The tool uses your device's clock and your state's official time zone to show the window in your local time, and whether it's likely to be today or the next business day. It also shows the matching Sydney time for reference, which helps when you're coordinating with people in other states.
What happens after you request the call-back
When you tap the button, your plan is remembered on this device and shown beside the short call-back request form. The form takes about a minute. A real specialist reads it before ringing, so the first question isn't "so, what's this about?" Mention your preferred window, answer the questions as accurately as you can, and keep your phone nearby — the call may come from a number you don't recognise.
Nothing in the tool touches your credit file, and your details aren't sent to a queue of lenders. If you want to understand the process first, read how a call-back works, step by step, or check your readiness with the eight-question Call-Ready Check.
What this tool deliberately doesn't do
It doesn't ask for an interest rate, and it doesn't estimate repayments. Business lending is priced on the whole picture — security, trading history, purpose, term and how quickly it's needed — so any number typed in now would be a guess dressed up as an answer. The more useful move is to ask for the total cost in dollars on the call. Our list of questions to ask a business lender on the first call covers how to do that.
It also doesn't decide whether you'll be approved. It simply makes sure the conversation that decides it is a good one. When you're ready, ask for your call-back here.
Call-prep tool questions
Does using the call-prep tool send my details anywhere?
No. The tool runs in your browser and asks for no name, phone number or email. Your selections are only remembered on your own device so they can appear next to the form when you request your call-back.
Is the call window a booking?
It's your preferred window, shown in your own state's local time. Mention it when you request the call-back so the specialist knows when you're free to talk. Keep your phone nearby around then, because the call may come from a number you don't recognise.
Why does the tool ask for my state?
Australia runs on three standard time zones, and only some states use daylight saving. From 4 October 2026 to 4 April 2027, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT are on daylight time while Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory aren't. The tool works out your local window so nobody rings at the wrong hour.
What if I don't have everything on the checklist?
Request the call-back anyway. The checklist makes the first conversation more useful, but it isn't an entry test. The specialist will tell you which items actually matter for your situation and which can wait.
Will I be asked for an interest rate or repayment preference?
Not by this tool. Pricing depends on your circumstances, so there's nothing useful to enter up front. On the call, ask for the total cost in dollars, including every fee, so you can compare like with like.
Is there a credit check when I request the call-back?
No. Asking for a call-back and talking through options doesn't involve a credit check. That conversation only happens if you decide to go ahead with an application.
No credit check to ask
Requesting a call-back and talking through your situation doesn't touch your credit file. That only comes up if you decide to go ahead.
